TRANSITION &

RECURRENT

STAY PROFICIENT. STAY SAFE.

FLIGHT REVIEWS & IPCs

Whether you're awfully rusty or incredibly proficient, the team at Brandywine Aviation is here to help you get and stay current! We'll gladly work with you in your own plane or rent you one of ours to keep you flying safely.

For your reference, these are the Flight Review and Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) requirements as laid out by the FAA. Contact us to schedule your training event or - for a really thorough review - consider enrolling in our next private pilot and/or instrument ground school.

Make sure you have a current FAA medical or BasicMed documentation. Please plan to bring your pilot certificate(s), medical, government-issued photo ID, and pilot logbook with you for your training.

INITIAL CHECKOUT

All Brandywine Aviation renters are required to complete initial transition training in their selected make and model.

To act as PIC of the Sling Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), renters must complete VFR transition training. The LSA can fly IFR, but it is not approved for flight into IMC. Therefore, we encourage but do not require instrument rated pilots to complete the IFR transition as well.

Cirrus renters must be private pilot certificate holders that have completed cirrus transition training in their chosen aircraft model with a CSIP or CTC. SR22T rental requires an instrument rating with an annual IPC in type. All instrument rated pilots (SR20 or SR22T) must complete advanced transition training.

6 MONTH CHECKS

After completing an initial checkout, all Brandywine Aviation renters will be required to complete additional recurrent training every six months - just as the professionals do - to maintain their rental privileges.

For the Sling LSA, this typically takes the form of one 2.5-hour lesson (1.5 hours of flight time).

Cirrus pilots will alternate between the VFR recurrent check and the IFR recurrent check each of which can be accomplished in a single 3.5-hour lesson (2 hours of flight time).

All checkouts are proficiency-based so additional time may be required if you're not consistently flying to the standards of the certificate you hold.

CHOOSE YOUR RIDE

Both Sling and Cirrus offer wonderful platforms for personal aviation.

However, due to weight and balance restrictions for the LSA aircraft,

please note that the Sling LSA can only accommodate renters up to 200 lbs.

BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

Technologically advanced cockpits come in many shapes and sizes; but the wide cabin, excellent all-around view, and spacious luggage capacity make the Sling a comfortable and versatile choice. Throw in best-in-class handling and maneuverability, and you have yourself a pretty incredible light sport aircraft.

Max student weight = 200 lbs.

A PERFECT COMPROMISE

Whether you are a new aviator looking for the perfect first airplane or an experienced IFR pilot with discerning tastes, the DA40 is the smart choice. The durable composite airframe, high useful load, and superb handling make the DA40 a great airplane for travel, leaseback, and training alike. Plus, the cabin heat and air conditioning will keep you comfortable all year round.

BOLD INGENUITY

Every pilot’s dream plane?

This might very well be it.

The SR20 and SR22T have redefined personal aviation with industry-leading performance, style, and safety. A seamless integration of luxury, technology, and automobile-inspired ergonomics will have you and your family eager to climb aboard. With an integrated parachute recovery system, its safety record is unmatched.

The transition to our Sling Light Sport Aircraft can be accomplished in just four 2.5-hour lessons (one ground and three flight lessons) though we recommend practicing with the avionics on your own between sessions. Transition training standards are the same as those of a flight review so a logbook endorsement can be provided at the completion of training. It should also be noted that training usually takes longer for those with no prior glass panel experience.

Training slots available (daily):
8:00AM - 10:30AM

10:30AM - 1:00PM

2:00PM - 4:30PM

4:30PM - 7:00PM (April - October)

Typical VFR transition training costs:

CFI (10 hours @ $85) + LSA (6 hours @ $165) = $1,840

DIAMOND DA40 AIRCRAFT

INITIAL VFR TRANSITION TRAINING:
6 SESSIONS, APPROX. 10 FLIGHT HOURS

The transition to our Diamond DA40 can be accomplished in just four 2.5-hour lessons (one ground and three flight lessons) however two additional flight lessons are required for those with no previous DA40 experience. We highly recommend practicing with the avionics on your own between sessions.

Transition training standards are the same as those of a flight review so a logbook endorsement can be provided at the completion of training.

CIRRUS SR AIRCRAFT

INITIAL VFR TRANSITION TRAINING:
6 SESSIONS, APPROX. 10 FLIGHT HOURS

Cirrus transition training is outlined by the aircraft manufacturer in the interest of safety and standardization. Cirrus has developed some incredible online training content so prior to beginning your flight training, we ask that you enroll in and complete all self-study content in the appropriate transition training course.  It should also be noted that training usually takes longer for those with no prior glass panel experience.

SLING LSA AIRCRAFT

INITIAL VFR+IFR TRANSITION TRAINING:
6 SESSIONS, APPROX. 10 FLIGHT HOURS

It's important to note that while the LSA can fly IFR, it's not authorized for flight into IMC. As such, the instrument transition is recommended - not required - for instrument rated pilots as it will get you instrument current. The VFR+IFR transition to our Sling LSA can be accomplished in just six 2.5-hour lessons (one ground and five flight lessons) though we recommend practicing with the avionics on your own between sessions. This training covers the requirements of both a flight review and an IPC so logbook endorsements can be provided at the completion of training. It should also be noted that training usually takes longer for those with no prior glass panel experience.
